“Paper Doll” (the song played by “the Negro entertainers in the bar around the corner”
A song written in 1915 by Johnny Black, and popularized in 1943 by the Mills Brothers. The song was a number one hit for almost three months, and has now been named as one of the Songs of the Century. It represented a revival of the popularity of the Mills Brothers, who had been experiencing a few years of declining sales.

"Blue Piano"
Sometimes also called the “piano blues”, this is a style of blues music that uses the piano as the primary instrument. Later music that is influenced by the blue piano includes swing, R&B, jazz, and rock and roll. The most famous type of piano blues is the boogie woogie.

A quarter is a section of an urban settlement. However, it can also refer to a non-administrative but distinct neighborhood with its own character, often connected with certain groups of people; for example, some areas are said to have diplomatic quarters, French quarters, or Jewish quarters.

A cigarette case used to protect cigarettes from being crushed. They are usually flat metal boxes, opening on one side to store rows of cigarettes along the inside. Within smoking culture cigarette cases can often be seen as something of a fashion accessory, often adorned with engravings or jewels, or made of precious metals. However, the commonly known “silver cigarette case” is often simply chrome-plated or polished aluminum, although genuine silver-plated and sterling silver cases can be found.

Literally, this term refers to a barrel of gunpowder or other highly explosive material. The metaphor refers to a potentially dangerous situation - a perception of peacefulness and dormancy, until a minor event triggers a large outburst of violence.
